In the Learn to Swim section there are currently 12 levels each swimmer needs to achieve before progressing
into the squad. Once a swimmer has completed a level, they have the opportunity to obtain a badge and
certificate for that completed level. On Saturday mornings there are 3 sessions for non swimmers and beginners
(level 1 to level 3) in the teaching pool. Once completed level 3, swimmers progress to swimming on Mondays
and Fridays. Level 4 is in the teaching pool, and level 5 is normally in the pit. The swimmers then progress to
the main pool to complete level 6 to 12. Each level uses the diving pit for stroke work and deep water activities
periodically. The rota can be found on the notice board. When a swimmer is working towards level 10 they are
able to attend an additional session on Sunday evening to learn starts, turns and finishes. To complete the
competitive start award, they need to perform a competitive start from a block into shallow water on each stroke.
This start needs to be streamlined and show all the under water work required for that stroke. this also covers a
large part of level 12, and is essential before progressing to the competitive squads.
